President Clinton signs Public Law 106-348, establishing the Memorial.


August 1, 2001

The Foundation submits a Site Selection Report analyzing six potential locations for Memorial and recommends the proposed site over I-395.


August 28, 2001

Washington D.C. Department of Transportation writes in general support of the site over I-395.


August 30, 2001

National Capital Memorial Commission approves the site over I-395 on behalf of the Secretary of the Interior.


September 20, 2001

U.S. Commission of Fine Arts gives final approval to the site.


October 10, 2001

National Capital Planning Commission gives final approval to the site.


March 17, 2002

Lois Pope Life Foundation announces $2,000,000 Grant


October 17, 2002

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) announces $3,000,000 Grant
